Make your Home Ready for Season Transition
As the warm, lazy days of summer start to fade, it’s time to focus on the coziest season. Fall is all about comfort, warmth, and creating a space that feels like a snug retreat. When the cold season comes, we will all spend more time at home during the cold months; curled up in our favorite Netflix shows or books in a warm, inviting nook with a cup of pumpkin coffee. There is some prep to do, though, before you start decorating your home with pumpkin spice candles and plush throws or Halloween decorations. To bring fall vibes home, first summer stuff should be stored away; the things you won’t need in the next 9 months. Let’s talk about the items you should declutter before fall or store away and replace them with cozy stuffs.
1. Inspect Your HVAC System, Furnace, and Fireplace
First thing first, you should check if your heating system works well! Make sure everything is running efficiently, It helps you to prevent costly breakdowns in the dead of winter and even can save on energy bills.
Inspecting the furnace, cleaning the chimney, and inspecting the gutter and roof, all are part of home maintenance activities that you should do during summer days. Take advantage of sunny and long summer days to get your home ready for the next cold months. You still have a couple of weeks to check that you completed everything on the home maintenance checklist.
2. Check Window’s Gaps to be Sealed
This is what you should have done in the early summer before the hot weather arrived! Whether it’s hot or cold, sealing is essential to preserving energy. If you neglected to do it over the summer, now is the moment to say No to energy waste! Before the cold weather hits, take some time to inspect your windows and doors. For any gaps and drafts use weatherstripping or caulk to seal them. This will not only keep your home warmer but also help with energy efficiency and energy bills.
3. Pack Up the Outdoor Furniture and Declutter Your Back yard
Your outdoor furniture has likely seen some good times this summer, but now it’s time to prepare it for winter storage. All of those adorable outdoor lamps, cushions, and umbrellas need a place to stay during the winter. If you’ve got a shed or garage, stack them neatly there. If you have limited storage space, you could want to use weatherproof covers and keep them outside but protected.
4. Store your Summer Wardrobe and Bringing Sweaters
Even if we adore our summer clothes, the time has come to pack them away. Start with the obvious items– those light breezy sundresses, flip-flops, and straw hats that instantly scream “beach day.” Then you can go with other summery items the bright-colored handbags and tropical-print scarves or floral pans which definitely will not have a chance in your fall/winter outfits.
If space is truly limited, think about compressing them into vacuum-sealed bags before storing them in labeled boxes or clothing bags. This way, you can easily swap them out when the sun starts to shine again.
5. Declutter the Kitchen Counters
Summer often means bowls of fresh fruit, pitchers of iced drinks, and BBQ essentials taking over the kitchen counters. As we head into fall, it’s time to streamline. Clear away items you won’t be using, like that oversized watermelon slicer or the ice cream maker.
Instead, make room for cozy season essentials – think slow cookers, spice racks, and maybe even a cute little tea/coffee station. Your kitchen should feel like a warm hug when you step in, not a chaotic summertime leftover.
6. Edit Your Foyer
During the summer, the doorway frequently turns into a dump for everything from flip-flops to sun hats. It’s time for a refresh because fall is almost here. Put aside your summer shoes and replace them with boots and cozy slippers. Add a basket for warm scarves and gloves, so they’re ready when the chill hits.
And don’t forget to declutter that catch-all drawer or bowl where random sunglasses and sunscreen bottles go to die. Keep it simple and organized.
7. Refresh Your Seasonal Decor
Your living room is about to become your go-to space for movie nights and cuddling up with a good book. To get it ready, start by decluttering. Those summery, lightweight blankets? Store them away. The bright, tropical-themed throw pillows? Time to swap them out for something more autumnal.
If you’ve got seasonal decor like seashells or beachy art, replace them with fall accessories and bring a sense of warmth and comfort – think warm tones, natural textures, and maybe a few pumpkins.
8. Change Your Comforters
Summer linens are light and breezy, but fall calls for something a bit more substantial and heavier. It’s time to swap out those thin blankets and crisp sheets for warmer comforters, flannel sheets, and cozy throws.
9. Check Your Home’s Air Quality
The air quality gets more and more significant as we spend more time indoors. A stuffy, poorly ventilated home can cause health issues. In addition to the HVAC system’s air filters, consider adding portable air purifiers to rooms where you spend the most time to make your indoor environment healthier. Another thing you should consider is checking the humidity. Ideal indoor humidity should be between 30-50%. If it’s too dry, consider adding a humidifier.
10. Declutter Garage & Storage Space
Gardening tools, campaigning, and pool equipment might be taking up all storage space in your garage. You may need to schedule a session for declutter your garage before fall to create more room. You will need to bring forward Halloween and holiday decorations or anything you will need for fall, like rakes, and leaf blowers. when the leaves start falling, you won’t have to scurry around to find what you need.
Now your decluttered space is ready to welcome the new season with new cozy decorations.
